ABOUT US
Founded in 2003, the Stanford chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) is a student-led affiliate of the Haas Center for Public Service. Stanford ESW aims to address the challenges of global poverty and sustainability by harnessing the energy and creativity of student engineers. We partner with organizations locally and internationally to approach engineering-based challenges through partnerships that foster cultural, educational, and technical exchange.

ENERGY 177A and ENERGY 177B
ESW offers a two-quarter course sequence with funding from the Energy Science and Engineering (ESE) department to complement club members’ work on engineering projects. Check out the course's project descriptions and team blog posts!
These courses aim to address the ethical, cultural, political, organizational, technical, and business issues at the heart of implementing sustainable engineering projects in the developing world. As students work on project teams with NGO and social entrepreneur partners, they think critically about the impact of their work and how to collaborate ethically and effectively as engineers.

ESW NATIONAL |
Engineers for a Sustainable World is a nonprofit network made up of people passionate about technical sustainability from all around the world. We believe that engineers, or anyone who loves to solve problems, are key to solving today's biggest sustainability challenges. ESW members work on everything from a self contained living unit and design studio for mobile deployment in disaster relief areas, a prototype of an affordable solar-powered lamp for citizens of Haiti, and a hydroponic system for a local food pantry to produce low cost food for the community.
